Vernon, B.C. (April 11, 2022) – The Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games Society is pleased to announce new leadership for the Games – to be held in March 2023.
Nicky Dunlop, Executive Director, PovNet Society, is the new president of the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games Society and Cindy Masters, Executive Director, Okanagan Village Housing Society, becomes the host society’s vice president.
Local organizers recently confirmed new dates for the 2022 BC Winter Games after deciding not to proceed with the Games this year because of a number of factors including the COVID-19 pandemic, last fall’s flooding, and last summer’s wildfires in many parts of the province. The Games, expected to attract up to 1,800 participants in 17 sport competitions, will now be held March 23 to 26, 2023.
Val Trevis and Teresa Durning have completed their roles as president and vice president of the local host society after providing exceptional leadership in these positions for 18 months.
“I am thrilled to take on this new role to lead the local team to create a memorable BC Winter Games experience next year in Greater Vernon,” said Dunlop. “I want to express my gratitude to Val and Teresa for their dedication and efforts to keep this project moving forward.”
“Our focus over the next 11 months is to build upon the extensive planning with all stakeholders to make sure the venues, facilities, services and volunteers are well prepared to welcome all Games participants from every corner of B.C. next March,” said Masters.
“I am confident the local host society, under the new leadership, will continue to make progress to create an exceptional event for athletes, coaches, officials and spectators next March,” said Vernon Mayor Victor Cumming. “We know Greater Vernon will be ready to host these Games with enthusiasm!”
Over the next year, provincial sport organizations in B.C. will review qualification requirements to determine if athletes who qualified for the 2022 BC Winter Games will be able to compete in 2023.
