BC Games Coach Mentorship Program kicks off in Whistler
The inaugural BC Games Mentorship In-Person Kick Off Weekend was hosted on Sept 23-24, 2023 at the Whistler Athlete Centre. Four mentor coaches and one mentee coach attended the event in person, and were joined virtually by three additional mentor coaches online.
The Coach Mentorship Program is a partnership between viaSport, Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, BC Games Society and participating Provincial Sport Organizations. The program is built to leverage the coach development opportunities and coach capacity development through a BC Winter Games cycle.
The Mentorship Kick Off Weekend included a NCCP Mentorship Certification course, Games Updates, Table Top Exercises, Mentorship Planning schedule as well as the informal social events which included card games and outdoor hikes.
The coaches in attendance brought a wide variety of skills and experiences to the table, which provided a vast array of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the group. It was very evident that the coaches were not only passionate about their respective sport but also passionate about coaching in general. The mentor coaches in this program are some of the best coaches in the province and we are very fortunate to have them leading our mentee coaches at the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games.
